I have spent eleven years inside complex healthcare environments where the cost of poor leadership is immediate and visible. For nearly ten years, I have been the one leading.
These settings demand constant relational judgement. You read people quickly, build trust under pressure, and navigate difficult conversations with clarity and composure. There is no room to shrink. No time to wait for permission. You lead, or things fall apart.
Through that work, I began formally mentoring emerging and current leaders into and within leadership roles. And I kept seeing the same pattern in who advances and who stalls.
